The story of „Jule“
Because of my own experience I can say that these dolls have to put up with many mishaps. How this doll got her name „Jule“ I do not know anymore.
Later it became tradition to celebrate the christening of another doll with hot chocolate, bisquits and cakes.
“Jule” was at least a 100 times in the washing machine (with 30° Celsius). Subsequently she was put under a hairdryer or into a tumble-dryer.
Within the last 27 years her body of cloth had been mended, sewn, darned and also mended with patches of other colours. The hair was brushed and treated with curlers.
The tips of her toes were scraped off through the trousers because the doll had constantly been dragged over the floor during the first years.
Almost everytime “Jule” accompagnied our daughter to the toilet and sometimes she even fell into the WC and sometimes also the bathtub wasn’t missed out.
Green stains from the grass or stains from chocolate and meals were the order of the day. They came not only from several picnics but also from showers of rain or dew because the doll had again spent a night ourside. She hadn’t as usual answered the call of her doll-mummy: “Jule, where are you?”
She was run over by a roller and the heavy “Kettcar” stood accidentally for some time on her already maltreated body.
After extensive playing on a playground, sand was found not only in the hair and the shoes of my daughter but also on “Jule”.
Once my daughter, at this time being 3 years old, came home with a mouse in her trouserpockets. She had wraped up the mouse in the cardigan of “Jule”.
After she had cleared out her pockets from rubber, paperclips, pencil, cork, marbles, sticky sweetspaper and some coins, finally a three-legged mouse appeared.
Usually my daughter shared with her doll and the dog of a neighbor her big salami bread and subsequently both, doll and my daughter were gratefully licked by the dog.
Additionally all the other animals on the farm had to meet her “Jule” and therefore the doll often had to spend some time in the washing-machine before it could retire to bed.
My daughter was never soft with herself or her toys. Therefore it was only naturally that I had to buy quality.
My daughter received scratches which till now have healed but the body of the doll became more and more flimsy and her face was polished from all the kisses she had received.
Since all the vinyl-parts of the doll were still there, it was easy for “Schildkroet” to repair the flimsy soft body of the doll after 27 years.
Now “Jule” is again a “healthy” girl and my daughter told me some time ago surprised at its appearance: So little and soft is my doll? I thought her to be bigger and taller!”
From the very beginning in the cradle of my daughter “Jule” has been with her. My brother-in-law made this darkhaired “Schlummerle” of Schildkroet a present to his newborn niece in 1972.
And from this hour child and doll had been inseparable.

By the way: „Jule“ is still availlable at „Schildkroet“ under the name „Schlummerle“ in many variants, i.e.:
Short or long hair, fair-haired or dark, with or without pout and in two sizes. All of them have „sleeping-eyes“!
